A Better Place to Build Better Lives – A Capital Campaign

When SIRSS moved into the old dormitory it rents from the City of Carbondale at 604 East College Street in Carbondale in the 1970's, the location was viewed as temporary.  Occupancy stretched over many more years than expected, and SIRSS grew from renting just one floor to occupying the entire building.  The building is now too old and too small.  After evaluating purchase or renovation of many potential sites, SIRSS determined that building a new primary facility across the street from its current location on approximately two acres of land it already owns is the best option.  The cost of the project is estimated at 6.4 million dollars.

People who feel the hurt associated with mental illness, substance abuse and youth and family problems need a warm and welcoming place to turn to when they are so discouraged that it seems like there is no hope.  They deserve the best our community has to offer, the best place for them to heal.  Healing is hard work, but it leads to reclaiming lost relationships and lost skills, and to regaining self confidence and self sufficiency.  Many people in our community are successfully living in recovery.  They are our family, our friends, our neighbors and our colleagues.  This Capital Campaign for A Better Place to Build Better Lives is for them.
